Our Flyer - page 1

Here is what the front page of our flyer says as of 9/27/2012:
(Update 10/7/12: latest version - including page 2 - is at )

Will they “Pave Paradise and Put up a Parking Lot?”

Sunnyvale city council is considering selling/leasing 14 acres of the Civic Center (library, city hall, etc. area) for commercial and residential use!

It is a beautiful piece of land with more than 200 trees…more than 80 of which are mature redwoods and pines.  It includes walkways and benches upon which one can rest in the pleasant shade.  It would be a crime to lose this quiet green space in the middle of the city! The council recently voted to sell Raynor Park Buildings (May, 2012), Murphy Park Expansion space (August, 2012) and now this!  Help us save our parks and green space!

Why is the city considering this proposal?

The proposal is to sell/lease the green space and trees to raise money for a new library and city buildings.  Developers have already been contacted and have expressed interest.

For large new buildings voters always vote on a bond issue.  An end-run around this would be an affront to democracy----and part of our heritage gone forever!

Who are we?
Concerned residents who want to preserve green space & parks for future generations.

First Post!

(Update 10/9/2012:  This is the beginning, please take a look at our other posts by clicking on a month on the right side of this and selecting some of our more recent posts.)

"Citizens for Sunnyvale Parks and Green Spaces" begins our adventure to stop the selling of yet more of Sunnyvale's parks and green spaces!

Who we are NOT: We are not affiliated in any way with the City of Sunnyvale which is why we put in the vague "citizens".  You don't have to be a citizen of the US to join us - we are all citizens of someplace.

Who we ARE: We are ordinary people trying to preserve our parks and green spaces, to stop the selling of the Sunnyvale civic center and other parks and green spaces for yet more commercial development.
