First Post!

(Update 10/9/2012:  This is the beginning, please take a look at our other posts by clicking on a month on the right side of this and selecting some of our more recent posts.)

"Citizens for Sunnyvale Parks and Green Spaces" begins our adventure to stop the selling of yet more of Sunnyvale's parks and green spaces!

Who we are NOT: We are not affiliated in any way with the City of Sunnyvale which is why we put in the vague "citizens".  You don't have to be a citizen of the US to join us - we are all citizens of someplace.

Who we ARE: We are ordinary people trying to preserve our parks and green spaces, to stop the selling of the Sunnyvale civic center and other parks and green spaces for yet more commercial development.

To add your name to the list of those who support our goal of preserving Sunnyvale's Parks and Green Spaces – E-mail CSPGSinfo@yahoo.com.

To let the City Council know how you feel email them at council@ci.sunnyvale.ca.us.

Our motto for the day is "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot" from 'Big Yellow Taxi' by Joni Mitchell

The entire song is on YouTube here:

  1. First off - thank you for organizing this!

It would be great to hear about the City Council meeting from the 16th (was not in town that week, could not attend). If anybody can share how it went, it will be appreciated.

    1. At the 10/16/2012 city council meeting, Deborah Marks read some comments from those who emailed us at CSPGSinfo@yahoo.com. Several City Council members commented that it wasn't an official plan and they weren't selling the Civic Center. Deborah was not allowed to reply at the time but our reply is and has been that by the time it becomes an official plan it will be too late to stop it. Lease or sale , the green space will be gone so it really doesn't matter what you call it. We are still hopeful of being able to dissuade them from the only option they are officially studying.

They always say the city has outgrown the current city hall but seem unwilling to consider leasing space, adding a floor, making a basement, or anything other than transferring the Civic Center for commercial development.

Similarly, the desire seems to be to tear down the existing library rather than add a floor or basement or a branch library.
